{"id":127602,"date":"2024-09-16T15:44:34","date_gmt":"2024-09-16T05:44:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=127602"},"modified":"2024-09-16T15:44:37","modified_gmt":"2024-09-16T05:44:37","slug":"3-killed-47-injured-in-egypt-passenger-train-collision","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=127602","title":{"rendered":"3 killed, 47 injured in Egypt passenger train collision"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>At least three died, including two children, and at least 40 were injured when two passenger trains collided in the Nile Delta area in northeastern Egypt on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The collision occurred in the city of Zagazig in Egypt&#8217;s Al Sharkia province and crumpled one passenger car,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.egypttoday.com\/Article\/1\/134762\/Social-solidarity-minister-directs-Red-Crescent-to-assist-in-rescue\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Egypt Today<\/a>&nbsp;reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First responders assisted injured passengers through the windows of damaged train cars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rescue operations are ongoing with those injured being taken to nearby Al-Ahrar and Zagazig hospitals, Egypt&#8217;s Ministry of Health reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One train was destined for Ismailia from Zigazag while the other was destined for Zigazag from Mansoura.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thirty ambulances and several medical teams responded to the accident scene while crowds of people gathered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Egypt&#8217;s rail system is in a state of decay and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/09\/14\/middleeast\/egypt-train-collision-intl-latam\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">has recorded<\/a>&nbsp;at least one deadly accident every year over the past 20 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Egypt reported 2,044 train accidents in 2018 and 1,793 in 2019, Egypt&#8217;s Central Agency for Mobilization and Statistics reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A train collision in 2021 killed at least 32 and injured 165.
