{"id":121516,"date":"2024-09-06T08:18:18","date_gmt":"2024-09-05T22:18:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/?p=117317"},"modified":"2024-09-06T08:18:18","modified_gmt":"2024-09-05T22:18:18","slug":"sydney-to-melbourne-super-possession-to-deliver-essential-trackwork","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=121516","title":{"rendered":"Sydney to Melbourne \u2018Super Possession\u2019 to deliver essential trackwork"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/ARTC.jpeg\" alt=\"\" style=\"float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;\"><figcaption>Image: Taras Vyshnya\/stock.adobe.com<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artc.com.au\/\">Australian Rail Track Corporation<\/a> (ARTC) will carry out essential maintenance and improvement works on the main railway line next weekend between Sydney and Melbourne, and Cootamundra to Parkes to maintain safety and reliability.<\/strong><span id=\"more-117317\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>During the works, the railway line will be closed as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Between Enfield and Moss Vale in NSW from 11 pm on Friday 13 September to 5am Monday 16 September.<\/li>\n<li>Between Moss Vale in NSW and McIntyre in Victoria and between Cootamundra and Parkes in NSW from 6am Saturday 14 September to 6pm Monday 16 September.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The shutdown is part of ARTC\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/artc-to-undertake-essential-hunter-valley-trackwork\/\">annual<\/a> maintenance program and is a significant investment in the network.<\/p>\n<p>Various maintenance activities will be completed, including replacement of 10km of rail, resleepering, structures repairs and track reconditioning works, which will keep the network running safely and efficiently.<\/p>\n<p>During the closedown, ARTC will commence track reconstruction works at Werai in the Southern Highlands, NSW as part of the $54.1 million Southern Highlands Overtaking project.<\/p>\n<p>Major construction activities will also be undertaken as part of the Inland Rail project, including lifting the Green Street bridge structure into place in Wangaratta and other track work along the North East rail line.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Clinton Crump, Group Executive Operations, ARTC said regular maintenance and upgrades to the Sydney to Melbourne railway line builds the reliability of this nationally important infrastructure.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cARTC has worked with rail operators to minimise disruption to passenger services and the freight industry between our largest cities and through to Parkes,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cARTC would like to thank the communities along the alignment for their patience while these critical, long-term improvements take place. I would also like to acknowledge the many hard-working rail workers who will be undertaking these works.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ARTC crews will minimise the impact of the work wherever possible, including positioning light towers to shine away from residences, watering down work areas and limiting the number of machines operating at any one time.<\/p>\n<p>Coaches and buses will replace NSW TrainLink services, including the Sydney to Melbourne XPT and V\/Line Albury Line trains during this time.
