The pilot, Colonel Mes (called &#8220;Moonfish&#8221;) perished in the incident. However, debate is ongoing as to why the jet crashed. Some (including in high places) have said the <a href=\"https:\/\/simpleflying.com\/tag\/f-16\/\">F-16<\/a> was shot down by friendly fire from a Patriot SAM.
