PROGRESS Rail has signed a contract with state railway PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI) for the supply of 54 GT38AC freight locomotives that will operate in South Sumatra.<\/p>\n
They will join the fleet of 91 GT38AC locomotives delivered to PT KAI since 2011. Progress Rail says that the high tractive effort of the EMD design equipped with ac traction motors will enable PT KAI to reduce operating costs and greenhouse gas emissions.<\/p>\n
The GT38AC is specifically designed for operation in Southeast Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa and has reliably operated with biodiesel blends up to B35 in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
The locomotive features the proven eight-cylinder EMD 710 engine and a driver\u2019s cab and locomotive body designed for improved visibility.<\/p>\n
Progress Rail expects deliveries to start in 2025.<\/p>\n
