Australia started retiring the Hornets in 2017, and the first Australian F-35A was accepted into service in 2018. In 2023, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/ukraine-interest-australia-f-18-004235504.html?guccounter=1\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" >Ukraine asked<\/a> for the old Aussie jets, but now that debate has ended with Ukraine instead getting <a href=\"https:\/\/simpleflying.com\/ukraine-air-force-3-types-western-jets-saab-jas-39-gripen\/\">F-16s and Mirage 2000-5s (and possibly Saab Gripens down the road)<\/a>.
