THE government of Brazil\u2019s Federal District (GDF) announced the winner of a Reais 319.7m ($US 64.6m) construction contract to extend Brasilia Metro\u2019s Orange Line on February 7.<\/p>\n
The CG\u2013JFJ consortium, formed of CG Constru\u00e7\u00f5es and JFJ Tecnologia em Instala\u00e7\u00f5es El\u00e9tricas will build a 3.6km extension southwest of the existing terminus at Samambaia.<\/p>\n
The contract includes the construction of two new stations, plus other fixed installations for the new extension including an electricity substation.<\/p>\n
Formal approval of the contract is pending the usual standstill period. If no appeals are lodged, approval and contract signing is scheduled for March, with completion due within four years.<\/p>\n
Progress on extending the Orange Line follows operator Metro-DF\u2019s call last month for expressions of interest in a tender to construct a 2.3km extension of the Green Line westwards from its current terminus at Ceilandia, with two new stations.<\/p>\n
