Victoria’s Big Build is forging ahead this spring on major rail projects, including the Metro Tunnel <\/a>and the\u00a0Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/span>Read more below about the major planned disruptions coming up in\u00a0inner<\/a>,\u00a0west<\/a>,\u00a0north<\/a>,\u00a0east and south east<\/a>\u00a0Melbourne and\u00a0regional Victoria<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Inner Melbourne<\/h2>\n

The tram tracks along\u00a0Swanston and Victoria streets\u00a0are being upgraded, traffic lanes realigned, and open public spaces created. This work will affect tram\u00a0routes 1,\u00a03,\u00a05,\u00a06,\u00a016,\u00a064,\u00a067,\u00a072,\u00a030 and 35\u00a0from Monday 26 August until Monday 16 September in the CBD.<\/p>\n

The intersection of Victoria and Swanston streets will also close in all directions from Friday 30 August, causing an additional travel time of 30 to 40 minutes for motorists.<\/p>\n

Melbourne\u2019s west<\/h2>\n

There will be weekend closures at times on the\u00a0Sunbury Line\u00a0from October to November with buses replacing trains for some sections of the line while testing continues on the Metro Tunnel Project\u2019s high-capacity signalling system.<\/p>\n

Melbourne\u2019s north<\/h2>\n

In October, buses will replace trains on sections of the Hurstbridge Line for 3 weeks while tracks, signalling and equipment are upgraded to allow for the extension of a rail tunnel, so the North East Link can be built over the Hurstbridge Line.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Melbourne\u2019s east and south east<\/h2>\n

With work powering ahead on all six SRL East<\/a>\u00a0station sites between Cheltenham and Box Hill in preparation for the start of tunnelling in 2026, there will be some lane and road closures on\u00a0Burwood Highway,\u00a0Burwood;\u00a0Coleman Parade,\u00a0Glen Waverley;\u00a0and Whitehorse Road,\u00a0Box Hill.<\/p>\n

Clayton Road\u00a0in Clayton will be closed from 9pm Tuesday 27 August until late October as crews work to relocate utilities to prepare for tunnelling in 2026 at the site of the new underground SRL station.<\/p>\n

There will be weekend closures at times on the\u00a0Cranbourne\/Pakenham Line\u00a0from October to November with buses replacing trains on sections of the lines while testing continues on the Metro Tunnel.<\/p>\n

Regional Victoria<\/h2>\n

V\/Line<\/a>\u00a0crews will work alongside the Australian Rail Track Corporation on signalling and track upgrades on the\u00a0Ballarat Line\u00a0between Monday 30 September and Wednesday 2 October. During this time, coaches will replace trains between Ararat and Ballarat.<\/p>\n

The Metro Tunnel team continues to test the project\u2019s next generation high-capacity signalling system and trains during spring, with coaches replacing\u00a0Gippsland Line\u00a0trains between Southern Cross and East Pakenham on some weekends during spring. Coaches will also replace trains between Traralgon and Bairnsdale from Wednesday 16 October to the last service on Sunday 27 October due to annual rail maintenance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
