The Ministry of State Assets has in fact rejected the company\u2019s request for financial compensation in the context of the so-called \u2018coal decision\u2019.<\/strong><br \/>\n<span id=\"more-55564\"><\/span>\u201cBoth the Restructuring Administrator and the Management Board of PKP CARGO SA in restructuring regretfully acknowledge the position of the Ministry of State Assets regarding the lack of legal grounds for paying compensation to PKP CARGO SA\u201d, the company said in a press release. The term \u2018coal decision\u2019 refers to an initiative launched by Polish former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki obligating PKP Cargo to transport 4,5 million tonnes of coal with priority on the Polish network between July and October 2022.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"readmore\">\n<div class=\"readmore-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/business\/2024\/08\/14\/pkp-cargo-had-fictitious-double-or-triple-jobs-possibly-fewer-layoffs\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/PKP-Cargo-building-1-128x128.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"readmore-thumbnail\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"readmore-info\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/business\/2024\/08\/14\/pkp-cargo-had-fictitious-double-or-triple-jobs-possibly-fewer-layoffs\/\" class=\"readmore-title\">\u2018PKP Cargo had fictitious double or triple jobs\u2019, possibly fewer layoffs<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<h2>The \u2018coal decision\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Such a business decision forced PKP Cargo to prioritise coal transportation at the expense of other, more lucrative contracts for services that had to be dropped. This led to significant decreases for the company, both in terms of volumes, but especially financial revenue. The current management of the company defined the coal decision as a \u201creprehensible\u201d initiative, which caused a tragedy for PKP Cargo and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/business\/2024\/07\/04\/pkp-cargo-to-layoff-over-4000-employees\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">thousands of workers who will lose their jobs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In order to be somehow compensated for these losses, the current management of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/railfreight\/2024\/07\/24\/pkp-cargo-appeals-to-government-for-coal-decision-compensation\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">PKP Cargo appealed<\/a> to the Polish government for compensation at the end of July. About a month later, the government has now rejected this request.
