Train testing in the Metro Tunnel continues to disrupt nearby medical equipment, creating challenges for the Victorian government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A leaked government document obtained by Nine newspaper The Age<\/em> in June revealed that MRI machines at Parkville’s Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre failed to meet required standards multiple times when trains were running on the subway line below the hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n

The issue of electromagnetic interference (EMI) has resulted in $128 million in capital works across Peter MacCallum, Royal Women’s, and Royal Melbourne hospitals.<\/p>\n\n\n

Health Minister \ufeffMary-Anne Thomas said she was aware of the issues affecting MRI machines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have been working for a number of years in mitigating the \ufeffimpacts EMI and I am really pleased with the way that has progressed with a whole range of mitigation strategies in place and working,” she told reporters today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Obviously train testing started last year and that’s when we really saw whether or not those strategies \ufeffwere working.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
