Peel Ports, the operators of Liverpool\u2019s famous riverside docks, welcomed the first call of the new direct container service connecting the UK\u2019s North West with the Far East just a few days ago.<\/p>\n<p>MSC\u2019s new Britannia Service creates a direct corridor between the two markets. It also opens up export and import opportunities for businesses looking to utilise the Port of Liverpool\u2019s geographically convenient location for onward distribution into the Midlands and North of England, and Scotland.<\/p>\n<h2>Importance of the UK market<\/h2>\n<p>Peel Ports, who operate Liverpool\u2019s port facilities, say the new service follows \u201cincreased demand from retailers and importers looking to diversify their supply chain, improve resiliency and reduce total road miles by ensuring goods arrive closer to their end destination.\u201d The first sailing for the service saw the MSC Tokyo tie up on 16 August in Liverpool from Vietnam, after leaving China.<\/p>\n<p>MSC says that the Britannia service creates a new, standalone loop, connecting Asia To North Europe. The naming of the service clearly reflects the importance of the UK market. \u201cMSC announce the creation of its new service that will provide increased port connections via a unique corridor from China &#8211; Vietnam to Liverpool\u201d, said the carrier.<\/p>\n<h2>Continued logistics chain disruption<\/h2>\n<p>According to MSC, the new loop provides access to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldcargonews.com\/ports-terminals\/2010\/07\/vietnam-terminal-moving-ahead\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">Vietnamese port of Vung Tau<\/a>, creating a direct service to Liverpool and hubs in Rotterdam, Antwerp and Hamburg, connecting Scandinavia and Baltic Destinations. \u201cThis will increase our coverage from China and Vietnam to the UK and Northwest Continent,\u201d added MSC.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-47251\" src=\"https:\/\/www.worldcargonews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Britannia-Service-route-300x164.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.worldcargonews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Britannia-Service-route-300x164.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.worldcargonews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Britannia-Service-route-840x459.jpg 840w, https:\/\/www.worldcargonews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Britannia-Service-route-208x114.jpg 208w, https:\/\/www.worldcargonews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Britannia-Service-route.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The first sailing was made by the vessel MSC Toyko, which cast off from Shanghai on 1 July. The originally scheduled vessel (MSC Denisse X), was rerouted, possibly due to the continued logistics chain disruption in the Red Sea. The full rotation on the Britannia route is: Shanghai \u2013 Ningbo \u2013 Yantian \u2013 Vung Tau \u2013 Liverpool \u2013 Rotterdam \u2013 Antwerp \u2013 Hamburg \u2013 London gateway \u2013 Singapore \u2013 Shanghai.<\/p>\n<h2>Smarter and more sustainable solution<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cThis highly anticipated direct service connecting Asia with Liverpool which will significantly enhance our customer offering in the UK,\u201d said Michael Collins, Commercial Director at MSC UK. \u201cThe Britannia Service allows customers in the North-West of the UK to bring their cargo closer to its final destination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The destination port was also eager to receive the 8500 TEU-capacity ship. \u201cThe new Britannia service is a significant benefit for Liverpool, and indeed the North,\u201d said David Huck, Chief Operating Officer at Peel Ports Group.
