Construction of the new Cave Hill Road<\/a> pedestrian underpass is gathering pace, with the bulk of the structural works now almost complete.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Work to build the underpass follows the closure of the dangerous\u00a0Cave Hill Road level crossing<\/a>\u00a0earlier this year, with the underpass providing a safer connection to Lilydale High School and nearby homes and businesses.<\/p>\n

The fully-accessible 5m wide underpass can be accessed by stairs and a ramp, and will feature extensive lighting and brightly-coloured geometric designs on the concrete facade of each entry.<\/p>\n

Crews excavated under the rail line during a 6-week winter construction blitz and are continuing finishing works to complete ramps and stairs, and to install lighting.<\/p>\n

Landscaping works and construction of the new turning circle outside Lilydale High School will also start next month, with the underpass expected to open in mid October.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, pedestrians can cross the rail line at John Street to access Lilydale High School and Hutchinson Street or Melba Avenue.<\/p>\n

The Lilydale Line is Melbourne\u2019s second busiest rail line and the first to be level crossing free, a year ahead of schedule.<\/p>\n
