{"id":11105,"date":"2024-02-14T09:55:39","date_gmt":"2024-02-13T23:55:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/?p=115321"},"modified":"2024-02-14T09:55:39","modified_gmt":"2024-02-13T23:55:39","slug":"inland-rail-marks-one-year-of-construction-in-victoria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=11105","title":{"rendered":"Inland Rail marks one year of construction in Victoria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ARTC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/inland-rail-to-drive-economic-growth-for-regional-victoria\/\">Inland Rail<\/a> has celebrated one year of construction of Inland Rail in Victoria and its clear local Victorian communities and businesses are reaping real benefits from the new investment in essential public infrastructure.<\/strong><span id=\"more-115321\"><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"flex flex-wrap justify-between align-center\">\n<p>To date Inland Rail has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/inlandrail.artc.com.au\/where-we-go\/projects\/beveridge-to-albury\/opportunities\/\">spent $45.1 million with 196 local Victorian businesses<\/a>\u00a0and employed 732 locals on the Victorian section of the project.<\/p>\n<p>The project started work at four sites in 2023 \u2013\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/inlandrail.artc.com.au\/where-we-go\/projects\/tottenham-to-albury\/regions\/north-east-victoria\/#barnawartha\">Barnawartha North<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/inlandrail.artc.com.au\/where-we-go\/projects\/tottenham-to-albury\/regions\/north-east-victoria\/#beaconsfield-parade\">Glenrowan<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/inlandrail.artc.com.au\/where-we-go\/projects\/tottenham-to-albury\/regions\/north-east-victoria\/#wangaratta\">Wangaratta<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/inlandrail.artc.com.au\/where-we-go\/projects\/beveridge-to-albury\/regions\/mitchell-shire\/#seymour-avenel-bridge\">Seymour-Avenel Road, Seymour<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 and steady progress has been made with Barnawartha North completed and Glenrowan close to completion.<\/p>\n<p>In partnership with construction contractor McConnell Dowell, work on the project to date includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Barnawartha North \u2013 13,000m\u00b3 of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/inlandrail.artc.com.au\/dirt-donation-provides-solid-foundation-for-4wd-training-course\/\">soil was removed<\/a>\u00a0and 400 metres of track lowered to allow trains to pass under the Murray Valley Highway<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/inlandrail.artc.com.au\/beaconsfield-parade-glenrowan-bridge-near-completion\/\">Glenrowan<\/a>\u00a0\u2013more than 1200m\u00b3 of concrete has been used to construct a new 145 metre Beaconsfield Parade bridge that will open on March 1<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4IOXPtc5Grw\"  rel=\"noopener\">Wangaratta\u00a0<\/a>\u2013 work surrounding the Wangaratta Railway Station continues with a pedestrian underpass installed, the Green St bridge removed for a new bridge to be built and work on a new platform commencing<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/inlandrail.artc.com.au\/seymour-avenel-road-works-kick-off\/\">Seymour-Avenel Rd, Seymour<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 the current bridge will be removed in March and construction will begin on a new bridge<\/li>\n<li>Overhead<a href=\"https:\/\/inlandrail.artc.com.au\/green-light-for-signal-gantry-replacement-in-victoria\/\">\u00a0signalling gantries<\/a>\u00a0raised at 5 sites<\/li>\n<li>Power lines raised at 12 out of 34 sites, two of these transmission tower sites<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ed Walker, ARTC Victoria and South Australian General Manager Projects said they will aim to complete the projects by 2027.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Barnawartha North project has been completed and we will soon finish the new Beaconsfield Parade bridge in Glenrowan and open it to the public,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt great to see so many local Victorian workers and businesses working on the project and spreading the benefits of the project into local communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe thank local communities for their understanding and patience as we continue to deliver this national building project.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Inland Rail is a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/inlandrail.artc.com.au\/what-is-inland-rail\/\">nation building rail project<\/a>\u00a0that will transform how goods are moved around Australia,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/inlandrail.artc.com.au\/where-we-go\/map-of-inland-rail-route\/\">first connecting Beveridge (just out of Melbourne) to Parkes<\/a>, NSW, by 2027 before later connecting from Narromine, New South Wales, to Ebenzer, Queensland.<\/p>\n<p>In Victoria, work will take place at 12 sites to lower tracks and raise bridges to enable double-stacked freight trains to pass safely and ensure everyday products can be delivered faster and more reliably around Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Inland Rail is planning to award the construction contract for the remaining eight construction sites in mid-2024, with construction expected to commence in early 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Harriet Christopherson, McConnell Dowell General Manager \u2013 Rail said it has been an exciting year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are looking forward to the year ahead with the completion of construction of the new Beaconsfield Parade bridge in Glenrowan, lots of work at the Wangaratta railway precinct and building a new Seymour-Avenel Road bridge to come,&#8221;
