margin:0 0 10px 10px;\"><figcaption>Image\/METRONET<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>In a blend of sustainability and historical preservation, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.metronet.wa.gov.au\/projects\/byford-extension\">METRONET Byford Rail Extension Project<\/a>\u00a0has donated around 400 pre-used railway sleepers to Rail Heritage WA.<\/strong><span id=\"more-117168\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The sleepers were removed from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/works-on-metronet-byford-rail-extension-continue\/\">METRONET Byford Rail Extension Project<\/a> as part of upgrade works on the project and will be used to re-lay 300 metres of the \u2018goods siding\u2019 track in the Boyanup railway station yard &#8211; doubling its distance and doubling the vintage rail experience for visiting train enthusiasts.<\/p>\n<p>The collaborative effort between the Byford Rail Extension Project team and Rail Heritage WA highlights the power of community, and shows that by embracing sustainability and repurposing materials, we can work towards a more sustainable future.<\/p>\n<p>Rail Heritage WA Secretary Ian Studham spoke about the importance of the heritage railway society to the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal is to present WA\u2019s railway heritage meaningfully to everybody, and being able to ride behind a live steam locomotive in vintage railway carriages is about as hands-on an historical rail experience as you can get,&#8221;
