{"id":108640,"date":"2024-08-16T08:27:33","date_gmt":"2024-08-15T22:27:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=108640"},"modified":"2024-08-16T08:27:37","modified_gmt":"2024-08-15T22:27:37","slug":"victorias-new-600m-high-speed-trains-have-just-started-taking-passengers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=108640","title":{"rendered":"Victoria\u2019s new $600m high-speed trains have just started taking passengers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Victorian government\u2019s first train from its latest order of new, locally made regional trains has started taking passengers\u2013 supporting growing demand and increasing reliability on the V\/Line network.&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>VLocity train number 119 is the first of 23 new trains ordered as part a $601 million investment in the Victorian Budget 2023\/24 \u2013 which will help deliver on their $219 million investment of almost 200 additional weekend V\/Line train services progressively in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/beat.com.au\/a-great-win-melbournes-new-train-station-opens-today-with-sweeping-views\/\">the coming years<\/a>, meeting the increased popularity of regional rail travel in Victoria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This order of VLocitys is replacing our longest serving Classic Fleet trains \u2013 boosting Victoria\u2019s VLocity fleet to 141 trains once the rollout is complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Victoria\u2019s new VLocity trains<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The first VLocity train has officially started taking passengers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The VLocity trains are the fastest on the network, reaching up to 160km\/h<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They\u2019ll run on the Geelong, Bacchus Marsh and Melton corridors, among other lines<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Stay up to date with what\u2019s happening in and around Melbourne&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beat.com.au\/culture\/\"><strong><em>here<\/em><\/strong><\/a><strong><em>.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Reviewing the V\/Line VLocity | Melbourne to Ararat by train\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BdX8jOaRG7g?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/beat.com.au\/melbournes-getting-new-trains-and-they-look-pretty-futuristic\/\">The extra trains<\/a>&nbsp;will deliver more reliable journeys on the Geelong and Bacchus Marsh corridors, and will also help&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/beat.com.au\/how-the-metro-tunnel-and-suburban-rail-loop-are-changing-public-transport-as-you-know-it\/\">lift capacity<\/a>&nbsp;on the Melton line by 50 per cent, with nine-car services to be introduced following the completion of the Melton Line Upgrade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new trains feature improved accessibility, with six spaces in each three-car set for wheelchair or mobility scooter users and space for up to six bicycles.
