{"id":1051,"date":"2022-10-30T12:30:19","date_gmt":"2022-10-30T02:30:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?guid=06936267b4ade155e31aac1443e89846"},"modified":"2022-10-30T12:30:19","modified_gmt":"2022-10-30T02:30:19","slug":"government-to-spend-61m-to-lift-bus-driver-wages","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=1051","title":{"rendered":"Government to spend $61m to lift bus driver wages"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Government will spend $61 million to push bus drivers&#8217; pay up, as cities around New Zealand battle with major shortages, cancellations, and service disruptions.<\/p>\n<p>Transport Minister Michael Wood announced on Sunday the Government would spend the money, allocated in this year\u2019s Budget, with the aim of pushing urban bus drivers&#8217; pay up to $30 per hour, and regional drivers&#8217; pay up to $28 per hour.<\/p>\n<p>The minister said there were some 800 drivers needed across the country, including 500 in Auckland and some 120 in Wellington, and raising drivers&#8217; pay would make it easier to both recruit and retain workers, and improve frequency and reliability of bus services.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Government is putting money on the table, from us, to make sure that we lift pay and conditions.
