Further service changes are being introduced on parts of the Metrolink network to improve reliability while repairs to a cracked rail near Victoria tram stop continue.<\/p>\n
Exchange Square tram stop will reopen to provide a more reliable and punctual service for customers travelling on Metrolink through the city centre, by balancing the number of trams passing through Market Street and Shudehill.<\/p>\n
From Monday 12th\u00a0February, the East Didsbury to Shaw and Crompton service will run on a 12-minute frequency between East Didsbury and Exchange Square only at peak times (7am to 8pm) instead of running to Shaw and Crompton.<\/p>\n
Services between East Didsbury and Rochdale Town Centre will also run on a 12-minute frequency via Market Street and Shudehill, with increased double trams through to Rochdale.<\/p>\n
No trams have operated between Exchange Square and Victoria since 17th\u00a0January after \u00a0a track defect was discovered in one of the specialised crossings. The crossing was removed and is undergoing repairs off-site at the manufacturer\u2019s premises.<\/p>\n
The removal of the crossing means services are still unable to operate between Exchange Square and Victoria tram stops, but the latest service change, planned for Monday, will improve the service for passengers.<\/p>\n
Danny Vaughan, TfGM\u2019s Head of Metrolink, said: \u201cI want to give a huge thank you to passengers for their patience while these important repairs are taking place.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince the initial discovery of the damaged rail, ensuring a safe and reliable service has been our number one priority. However, we accept that there have been punctuality issues in recent weeks.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy introducing this new service pattern and reopening Exchange Square, we are hoping to provide a more reliable service on the impacted lines, and more doubles through Oldham and Rochdale for our passengers.\u201d<\/p>\n
